It’s in our nature to put off certain decisions, thinking we’ll live to see another day … and another … and another. Some decisions we don’t want to delay, and the most important is where we will spend eternity.

Ready or not?
A tabloid headline once screamed, “Christ will return on December 25!” For some people that announcement might have seemed scarier than the vision of a Halloween vampire. For others it may have brought a smile of joy. The reader’s reactions depended on their spiritual standing with Christ.
There have been many other predictions in the past about a date and time of Christ’s return. None have been accurate, obviously. No one knows when He’ll return. Jesus said, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Luke 12:40)
Are you ready for his return? On that day we don’t have a choice. We may fall before Him with fear and trembling, knowing we never heeded the evangelist or pastor’s call from the Word of God to repent and turn our life over to Christ, or we will welcome Him, assured we’ll be taken up to heaven to live with Him in eternal joy rather than being sent to hell to suffer.
Today we do have a choice, knowing ahead of time we someday will come face to face with the Lord at His return. Luke 9:59 says: “[Jesus] said to another, ‘Follow me.’ But he replied, ‘Lord, let me first go and bury my father.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.’ And another also said, ‘Lord, I will follow you, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.’ Jesus said to him, ‘No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’”
The excuses we may use to put off such an important decision are endless. But no excuse will delay God’s judgment day. For the sake of our eternal destiny, we dare not put it off. We must accept Him, believe on Him, confess our sins to Him, and turn our life around. Only then will be assured of eternal life with Him, enjoying peace and joy and other blessings He has ready for us from this day on. And only then will we enjoy that unmatchable peace and joy today.
“Behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
Lord, we want to be fit for Your kingdom today by serving You above all. Help us to be ready for Your return by forgetting all else but You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
