When we see such devastation, sometimes we may wonder why God doesn’t answer our pleas for healing and for an end to our problems. Trouble is, we live in an imperfect world. God did not promise perfection but He did promise to hear us, to be with us, and to work all things together for good, to those of us who love Him. Keep the faith!

Prayer works

Since I’ve chosen to pretty much isolate myself from others during the current pandemic, I’m finding myself praying harder and longer than usual. Perhaps it’s because I’m alone so much and need someone to talk to. And who better to talk to than our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? He’s our best listener. He takes joy when we praise and thank Him, and He answers our prayers always. Knowing best, He answers in ways we might not imagine and in ways that will bring the best for us and for others.

The Bible is full of passages about prayer—about its necessity and value on our part and its results on His part. “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray … the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” (James 5:13, 15) James earlier writes about praying in faith, with no doubting. He calls the doubter double-minded and unstable.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” We can pray without ceasing even when we’re busy. But it’s also beneficial to sit quietly, without distractions, for a one-on-one session with our faithful prayer-answering Lord. That’s why I’ve chosen 12 noon to be my special time of quiet with Him. And during the pandemic, I’ve chosen to concentrate my prayers on those within the county where I live. I taped a county map to cardboard to make it easier to visualize where to pinpoint my prayers.

Will you join me in prayer each day at 12 noon? Wouldn’t it be something if all believers prayed at noon for their specific areas of residency? Imagine God’s host of angels scurrying to do His bidding in every county and borough of the USA? Please consider this way of storming the gates of heaven as a united front to battle the enemy we face.

Lord thank You for Your perfect answers to our prayers. We are helpless without You. We pray for wisdom in knowing how best to protect ourselves. We also pray for Your protection and well-being for ourselves and those who live in or visit our county. We ask special care for first responders, nurses and doctors, caregivers, and workers who serve us in some way. We pray like the psalmist in Psalm 91 that surely You will deliver us from the perilous pestilence. Your truth, the Word of God, will be our shield and fortress. Keep us from doubting Your Word. We don’t want to be double-minded and unstable. We want to be free from fear and sure of Your promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
